Whether you're new to hair extensions, or have had hair extensions in the past, it's always a good idea to refresh your memory on how to take care of your hair. The better care your hair extensions receive, the longer they will last you.
With maximum care, your hair extensions can last up to a year or even longer. The more you wash and style your extensions, the shorter their lifespan will be, so keep washing and using additional products to a minimum. The important thing to remember is that your hair extensions don’t have a natural hydration source like your own hair does, so keeping them moisturized and reducing dryness is crucial.
2. Prevent Tangling
HJ’s hair extensions are made of 100% remy human hair. All hair extensions, can and may tangle - it's normal and to be expected. The reason being is because the friction of your natural hair rubbing against your hair extensions causes tangles.
The best way to keep your extensions tangle-free is to keep on top of regular brushing. Always have a paddle brush on hand so that even when you’re out and about you can still give your hair a quick run through.
3. Reduce Shedding
On average, your natural hair will shed approximately 100 strands a day, and because our hair extensions are made of natural hair, you can expect some shedding throughout its lifespan. Every time you brush or style your extensions there will be light shedding, so don’t be surprised or worried when this happens. This, however, does not mean to reduce the amount you brush your extensions. You can minimize shedding in other ways.
Washing your extensions too much will dry out the hair, which may cause them to shed. The more products you use, the more you will need to wash your extensions, so the best way to reduce shedding is to use a minimal amount of products when styling your hair.
4. Coloring Your Extensions
HJ’s hair extensions can be dyed a darker color. If you do decide that you want to color your extensions, it’s always best to head straight to the salon and find a professional who is experienced in working with extensions as you’re unlikely to run into problems this way.
We do not, however, recommend bleaching your hair extensions as they have likely already been dyed at the manufacturing level. Forcing bleach on hair that has already been dyed can be difficult, and finding alternatives like increasing the concentration of bleach or leaving it in longer to soak will only lead to damaged hair. Also, keep in mind that the color may not come out as intended because of the existing hair dye.
